Warriors to Farmers Organizational Structure

St. Johns Hops Board of Directors

Sebastien  Lajeunesse

Sebastien is a combat veteran Marine and founder of St. Johns Hops. Following the end of his Marine Corps career, founder Sebastien Lajeunesse started working for his father’s business Agro Research International (which specializes in organic pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers). It did not take long before he realized that horticulture therapy was an excellent way to cope with his service related PTSD. Sebastien managed to find a way to implement his new love for horticulture with an old hobby of making home brews.

Marc Lajeunesse

Marc is the founder and CEO of Agro Research International, an organization dedicated to unique and eco-friendly formulations that will help the world grow better quality food through research, innovation and unique alliances worldwide. The history of Agro Research International begins many years ago in Colombia. As part of a US, Canadian and Colombian initiative, I helped farmers transition from growing coca for illicit drugs to legal and profitable crops. One crop stood above others: Stevia, the natural sweetener.

Marc began testing and developing a number of products such as seaweed and natural essential oil extracts with fungicidal, bactericidal, insecticidal and nematocidal properties. Thyme Guard was that product and soon became a hit. The initial focus was tackling citrus greening in Florida, which was devastating the citrus industry. A trial with Thyme Guard at Mid Florida Citrus Foundation proved very successful, resulting in an increase in yield of 46%, primarily due to a reduction in fruit drop. This caught the attention of growers, and soon thereafter the University of Florida, in conjunction with CRDF, was studying Thyme Guard as a potential solution for the disease.

Alexandra Gleason
